When a player starts a new game, he or she may pick a nation, a leader and the type of buildings the city will have (whether european or asian, among others), or to pick from a pre-set list of settings. The game comes with the server program, allowing players to establish network games themselves on a local area network, or to allow others to join a game via the internet. Choosing a local game allows the human player to play only against computer players while a network game allows that player to start or join a hosted game. Game PlayĪ human player starts the game with the choice of local or network game. Since May 2013 it's also playable in browsers supporting HTML 5, including tablets and phones, and in 2016 an online "Long Turn" component, similar to Play-By-Email, with 300 players per game, was added to the HTML 5 client.
